Local Civic-Group Events

The following is a selection of event announcements provided by local groups serving expatriates or by secular non-governmental organizations in Frankfurt that welcome participation by foreigners. The 2011 Activities Fair, featuring information on civic organizations serving foreigners in the Frankfurt am Main area, takes place on Tuesday, September 6, 2011.

A one-day workshop and demonstration singing in the American Sacred Harp singing tradition will take place in
Frankfurt am Main 30th October 2011

Sacred Harp singing is a powerful form of choral Folk Hymn music with roots in Anglo-Celtic folk song and the community singing schools of early New England. It is sung in a hearty, fullvoiced a cappella style in three and four-part harmony.

The workshops will start with an introduction to Sacred Harp singing through a demonstration by a group of experienced Sacred Harp singers, followed by instruction in the notation system and the repertoire and singing style, finishing with a session of Sacred Harp singing for all involved.
